How to choose an overlocker
Manual or air threading?
Manual-threading models use guides and looper-threading aids. Compare the FEIYUE FY503, FY525 and Brother 2104D for everyday sewing.
Air-threading machines carry thread through the loopers. Needle threading is a separate feature: some use a mechanical aid, while selected Baby Lock models air-thread the needles too. Compare the Brother Airflow 3000, Janome AT2000D, Juki MO-2000 QVP and our Baby Lock range.
Thread count and stitch choice
Three- and four-thread setups cover many home-sewing tasks. Models with two-thread options add further finishing choices. Check the individual machine's stitch list rather than assuming every overlocker offers the same stitches.
Overlocker or combination machine?
An overlocker trims and finishes fabric edges. Coverstitch creates the parallel rows often seen on jersey hems. Combination machines provide both functions, with setup changes between them. A standalone overlocker does not provide coverstitch just because it has several threads.
