Brother HF37 Strong & Tough: A Practical Sewing Guide
Reviewed 30 October 2026.
The Brother HF37 is a mechanical sewing machine in Brother's Strong & Tough range. Its dial controls and useful stitch selection can suit everyday sewing, repairs and creative projects within the machine's capabilities.
What controls does it have?
Brother lists 37 sewing stitches including buttonholes, manual thread-tension adjustment and a standard needle-threading system. Stitch selection uses mechanical controls: the HF37 does not have an LCD screen or a computerised stitch-selection menu.
Choose for the actual project
Think about the fabric, seam construction and thickness at the bulkiest point, rather than assuming Strong & Tough means any number of layers. Use the needle, thread, foot and technique recommended for the task. Do not force thick work under the foot or pull it against the needle.
Learning the setup
Follow the manual for upper threading, the take-up lever, bobbin insertion and stitch settings. Practise on scraps of the same layers before beginning. A suitable needle and good-quality thread matter as much as the stitch chosen.
Check accessories individually
A foot or attachment needs to be compatible with the exact model and intended stitch. A familiar Brother part name is not enough to confirm that it fits. Ask before ordering if the compatibility information is unclear.
