Overlocker or Coverstitch Machine: Which Do I Need First? — Fabric Mouse retro baby lock sticker

Overlocker or Coverstitch Machine: Which Do I Need First?

Short answer: choose by the job you need to do most. An overlocker trims and finishes raw edges and can sew suitable seams. A coverstitch machine makes the parallel, flexible hems seen on T-shirts and activewear, without cutting the edge.

What if I make garments from knit fabric?

If unfinished seam allowances are your main frustration, start by comparing overlockers such as the Baby Lock Victory and Baby Lock Acclaim. If you already own an overlocker and want the shop-bought hem appearance, the dedicated Baby Lock Euphoria may be the next step. If space is tight, a combination machine such as the Baby Lock Desire 3 performs both types of work, though changing from one function to the other takes setup.

There is no universal best order. Tell us what you make and what you already own; we can point you to the right machine and explain the trade-offs.
