What Is a Coverstitch Hem and Which Baby Lock Makes One? — Fabric Mouse retro baby lock sticker

What Is a Coverstitch Hem and Which Baby Lock Makes One?

Short answer: a coverstitch hem has parallel rows of stitching on the outside of the garment and a looper formation underneath. It is the finish many people recognise on T-shirts and other knit clothing. Unlike an overlocker, a coverstitch machine hems without trimming the fabric edge.

Which machine should I look at?

The Baby Lock Euphoria is a dedicated coverstitch machine with looper air threading and a generous work area. The Baby Lock Cover Stitch BLCS is another dedicated option. If you also want to overlock with one machine, compare a combination model such as the Baby Lock Desire 3, allowing for the setup change between functions.

Bring a sample of the jersey or other knit you use most often when discussing a machine. Contact Fabric Mouse and we can help you compare the hems and the amount of space each machine gives you.
