Sewing Machine Bobbins

Choose the correct bobbin for your sewing or embroidery machine. Similar-looking bobbins can differ in height, profile and material. Use the specification in your machine manual and the product’s confirmed fit list.

Check more than the diameter

Match the bobbin class or part number, its height, top and bottom profile, and the manufacturer’s material specification. A bobbin which drops into the holder is not automatically the correct bobbin.

Sewing, embroidery and specialist machines

Check the manual for your exact machine. Domestic sewing, embroidery, high-speed straight-stitch and industrial machines can have different requirements. Prewound bobbins must also match the machine’s specified type and intended thread use.

Keep your bobbins organised

Label storage boxes by machine or bobbin type. Keep damaged or distorted bobbins separate, and check the bobbin is wound evenly and inserted in the direction shown in the manual.

Questions and answers

Can I swap a metal bobbin for a plastic one?

Use the type specified for your machine. Do not swap material solely because the size looks similar.

Will a bobbin fit every machine of the same brand?

No. Check the exact model or manufacturer part number.

Do I need a bobbin or a bobbin case?

The bobbin holds the thread. The case or holder supports it inside the machine; they are separate parts.
