Sewing Machine Needle Plates

Find a replacement needle plate, throat plate or straight-stitch plate. The screw positions, feed-dog opening, stitch clearance and bobbin-cover fitting must suit your exact machine.

Choose the correct plate

  • Standard zigzag plate: provides the opening required for the machine’s supported stitch width.
  • Straight-stitch plate: uses a smaller opening to support fabric during suitable straight stitching. Use only the needle positions, stitches and foot specified by the manufacturer.
  • Overlocker plate: includes model-specific features such as stitch fingers; use the correct replacement for the machine.

Metal plate or plastic cover?

The metal needle plate, plastic needle-plate surround and clear bobbin window are separate components on many machines. Check the product images and included items. If the missing piece is the small window above the bobbin, visit our bobbin cover and slide-plate guide.

Check for damage

Needle strikes can leave marks around the opening. If thread catches or the needle contacts the plate, stop and check the needle, plate and selected stitch. Follow your manual for removal and fitting; after a plate change, check clearance as instructed before using the motor.

Questions and answers

Can I zigzag with a straight-stitch plate?

Use only stitches and needle positions approved for that plate. A narrow straight-stitch opening does not provide clearance for ordinary zigzag stitching.

Does the bobbin cover come with the plate?

Only if the product listing says so. Some plates are sold separately from their cover, surround, screws or matching foot.

Are all plates for one brand the same?

No. Match the exact machine and part number, including the stitch width and feed-dog layout where relevant.
