Three checks for the correct pedal

1. Machine: record the complete make and model, including any suffix.
2. Controller: photograph the reference and electrical markings on the old pedal.
3. Connector: photograph the plug and the socket it connects to, including pin layout and any locating notch.

The same number of pins or a plug that appears to fit does not establish electrical compatibility. Some machines use separate power and controller leads.

Complete control, lead or pedal only?

Check the included items. A complete control with lead, a replacement lead, a bare pedal and a multifunction controller are different products. Genuine, compatible and used options should be identified separately in the listing.

Older Singer, Janome, Brother and YDK fittings

Older machines use a wide range of fittings, including several Singer connector families, Janome mechanical and electronic controls, Brother controllers and YDK solid or hollow connectors. These are useful identification clues, but the exact controller specification and machine fit must be checked before purchase.

If the machine runs unexpectedly

Switch off and unplug the machine and have the controller and machine checked. Do not continue using a faulty controller. Wiring and electrical repairs should be handled by a suitably competent repairer.

Does a matching plug mean the pedal will work?

No. Confirm the controller specification and exact machine compatibility as well as the connector.

Can I buy just the lead?

Some listings offer leads separately. Check the options and included items; a lead-only option does not include the pedal.

What photos should I send?

Send the full machine model label, old controller markings, plug face and machine socket. A ruler beside the connector can help the team identify it.
